Good Morning!
I have noticed a drop off in Zoom participation this week. Our Zooms have been really beneficial to those students who attend each day. You may have felt that the assignments this week were kind of difficult. Multiplying and dividing decimals isn't exactly a walk in the park. Please don't sit at home and struggle when you could be getting extra help every day. I often allow students who attend Zooms to skip an IXL assignment later in the day, added bonus. Zooms can be accessed by clicking on the link on daily assignments on Edmodo. The password will always be my pet's name in lowercase. In other news, many students are still not consistently logging in to complete the work each day in Edmodo, IXL & Freckle. Not only is completing the work the only way to get the grade you want on your report card, but you NEED this practice for next year. From what I have seen in Zoom and on assignments, we aren't quite the experts we want to be in any of our Math concepts. We are also still learning NEW Social Studies concepts. I want us to finish strong! Please take a moment to reach out to a friend today and ask them how their work has been going. Be accountability buddies to each other! I would love to hear from you in the form of comments, questions or concerns. Let's FINISH STRONG!

Hey team! I have loved seeing some of your faces on Zoom each week. In case you are unaware, we are doing several Zooms each week to cover math review, technology help and social studies content. Everyone (in our class) is invited. I will post a schedule here, but I have to delete the passwords for privacy. A schedule that has the passwords will be uploaded to Dojo and Edmodo later this week! I look forward to seeing more of you join in our zoom. Tell your friends too! Good morning! I want to update you on a few changes to our distance learning program including some specifics about specials. As you may have seen in the county communications about distance learning, we will be moving to a Monday-Thursday distance learning schedule. This means that I will be offering Zooms and actively assigning content on those days. On Fridays, I will be available for communications (excluding Zooms) and planning work for the next week while you are finishing up anything you didn't get to during the week. I think this will help us stay organized, communicate well, and allow you the time needed to complete your assignments. But what about specials...Since no new work will be assigned on Fridays, that includes specials work. From now on, you will have a choice of which special to complete on Thursdays. I am attaching your new specials rotation so that you can follow along each day. Click HERE for specials blog. We made it to another Friday! Many of you have worked very hard this week to complete assignments and continue learning despite our odd circumstances. Now it's time to take a little brain break and RELAX... Spring Break 2020 is here! Unfortunately, we will all be stuck at home so I made a little spring break calendar full of ideas to occupy your time next week. It is not an official assignment, so you don't have to do any of them if you don't want to. (Make sure that you ask parent permission before you participate!) *printable/clickable PDF attached below photo
Howdy folks!
I decided with this lovely weather to buy a tomato plant. I want to invite you to follow along as my tomatoes begin to grow. I will post updates at least every other day so that you can check in on their progress. I created a Tumblr (this was a popular social media site in 2010 lol) for my tomatoes and I put the link under the "FOR FUN" tab. I will also attach the link here. I encourage you to start a gardening project of your own while we are stuck it home. You may be surprised to find you have a green thumb after all! We made it once again!
I am so impressed by the dedication of each of you (parents and students) to keep up with your learning each day of this "stay at home". I was so excited to see that TWENTY SEVEN of you were logged onto Clever at one time yesterday. I want to give a couple of shout-outs and if I miss you, I apologize. Shout outs to Juan U., Jose, Amy, Fatima, Alexa, Leana, Nicole, and Lillian - you guys have tried out every learning platform and connected with me over Edmodo. Even if you haven't been able to login to everything, I am still super proud. You are doing your best and that's what matters! In other news: yesterday, I bought a tomato plant. Tomatoes are angiosperms because they flower and produce fruit. I am going to figure out a way to document the progress of my tomato plant so that you can follow along. Gardening is a great activity to keep you busy and learning during this time. I encourage you to try if you are able. More to come on my tomato plant! I love and miss you all! - Ms. L Good morning everyone!
I have to take a moment to give a shout out to all the adults in our lives. YOU have stepped up to the plate and gone above and beyond this week to help your kiddos get acquainted with our new normal... all while figuring out your own new normal too. I really appreciate the time you've spent making sure that my students have the resources they need to be successful. Not only have you become part time tutor, but also schedule maker, culinary director, IT director, director of fun and so much more. I am super thankful for you and I know your kiddos are too! We're in this together, but know that you are oh so appreciated! Good Morning folks! I am going to uploading a reading guide in the "FILES" tab of Edmodo each day that we have a reading to complete. I think this will be especially helpful as we begin reading about the Civil Rights movement. There is so much information and so little time. Use this guide to help guide your reading. I will also upload it to the daily assignments tab on this blog (above). I used the Microsoft translator so there is a decent Spanish translation below for each guide. As always, contact me with any questions you may have! Miss you all!
Good morning boys and girls and 5th grade families!
I am excited that we survived our first week of digital learning! I am hoping to see more of you completing the assignments that I have posted for each day. Our assignments are mostly going to be on Freckle, IXL, and Edmodo but you will need to use your Studies Weekly and/or Science textbook also. You can find "how to log in" guides under the LOGINS & HOW TOS tab. Of course I am available each day during normal school hours to answer questions. I should be able to respond within the hour during school hours. If you don't already know what your Cobb email address, you need to get that from me. Please message me or email me and I will provide it to you. I need everyone to join our class Edmodo page so that you can access printable resources and additional digital content. I think you'll find Edmodo to be a great help during this digital learning time! If you are having difficulty finding assignments, logging in or anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can even comment on this blog post! Happy learning! -Ms. Lassiter |
